I have similar idea, but I think that more general and better :-)
Here is proposed workflow:
- The GUI similar or the same as in tab Control points. Left image will be panorama preview, right image arbitrary image (as now).
1. Create one (maximally two) control point by the hand for the actual panorama preview and the new image.
2. Hugin automatically aligns new image with current panorama preview by local similarity search. Partial optimization may be done - only parameters of new image will be recomputed.
3. Visual check by user, possibility to run Global optimization, add more control points for current image, etc.
4. Repeat from step 1 for all images.

Notes:
- Control point on the panorama preview will be created for all intersected images.
- Hugin needs support for local warping (or it is done by Enblend?).
