Bug Description

1. Setting Printout Mode to Draft Color has no affect on printed output.
2. Setting Quality to 600 DPI, Draft, Color, Black+Color Cartr. has no affect on printed output.
3. Setting Brightness to 50% and/or Gamma to 500 has no affect on printed output.

All of these settings come about due to noticing sloppy color text printing. I downloaded the PDF at this link: http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/a3gencolorhigh.pdf and copied the image at the bottom of page 4 into Gimp. After confirming color values in certain areas, I printed it and the result is that the colors are too vivid and the shadows too dark (you cannot see details such as objects in the background or details of objects in the foreground). Changing the settings above and reprinting did not produce any difference in printed output.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi,

Please install the latest hplip-3.11.5. To do the same please follow the below link for linuxmint.

Let us know if the issue still persists on the latest.

Before I get started, I have to note that I discovered that it isn't necessarily colored text, but even black text above a certain text size. I created a document with 12 point and 9 point Gentium Book Basic. The 12 point text also exhibited the sloppy look--almost like ghosting. This is a new printer and my first HP at home.

Now on to your request to install 3.11.5:

Assuming Step 1B refers to uninstalling, done.

The printing is considerably better and this is good enough for me as I don't intend to print color images regularly. But as pertains to the bug description, the same problem with settings not affecting output exists. Further, the image mentioned above looks as it did before. I will mail it to myself and try to print it from work on another HP color printer to validate the image.

A new issue also raises its head with 3.11.5. The black lines at the bottom of the image highlight a registration problem between Magenta, which prints slightly higher than the Black line. This is true only in the image (not in a text document for example). The HPLIP Printer Test Page only exhibits this on the HP Logo.

Thank you for the response.

Printed from work on an HP printer from Win7. Output was as expected. This doesn't appear to be related to image contrast or gamma settings.

Hi,

Thanks for installing hplip-3.11.5 and letting know us on the same.

Can you provide us some more debug information.

1. Attach the out-put of "hp-check -t" command.
   #hp-check -t > debug.txt

2. Require the cups error_log file. To get the same please follow the below steps.

a)#sudo vim /etc/cups/cupsd.conf (this will open the file with write permissions)
Change LogLevel warn to LogLevel debug and below that line add
       hpLogLevel 15.
b)Reproduce the bug and attach the error_log file.
    #sudo cat /var/log/cups/error_log > error_log.txt

3. Attach the hpcups_job*.out (or) hpijs_job*.out of latest timestamp. These files are generated in /tmp folder.

Sorry for having you to do so much of work.

Thanks & Regards,
Goutam Kodu
