"Job completed" means that the printer driver is complete with the job (that
is, the computer is finished processing the job), not the printer actually
printed it.

Thanks for help, but I know that already ^^
The problem is that it doesn't help one bit when it comes to actually
printing or scanning the documents.
Please advise

Hi Sofik,
hp-check output is showing that you are installed hpcups driver and using hpijs ppd for printing.
Please remove all the previously added printer queues and add printer using hp-setup.
please run the following command
"sudo chown yourname /dev/bus/usb" (yourname is output of "whoami" command output)
Thank you for supporing HPLIP,
Naga Samrat.
Sofik (hateschool) wrote : Odp: [Bug 467906] Re: no printing , no scanning | #9 |
Thanks a lot!!
That's more than possible reason.
I removed the old version Hplip and I think everything I installed
before I used the hplip, but during the reinstallation I got this
command:
warning: A previous install of HPLIP is installed and/or running.
sudo apt-get remove --assume-yes hplip hpijs foomatic-db-hpijs (Removing
old HPLIP version)
warning: HPLIP removal failed. The previous install may have been
installed using a tarball or this installer.
warning: Continuing to run installer - this installation should
overwrite the previous one.
The problem still haven't been solved.
When trying to run the below command after removing and reinstalling the
driver I got this message:
$ sudo chown "myname"
chown: missing operand after `"myname"
Try `chown --help' for more information.
Can you guide me somehow through the deinstallation and installation of
packages in this case.
Thanks in advance

Can someone take this printer from me ?
It's on my desk taking a lot of space and is totally useless.
Thanks in advance

Hello Sofik,
hp-check -t output is showing that system is able to communicate with the printer. or communication status is good.
Let us clear some facts,
1. How are you added your printer?
2. Please add your user name to "lp" group and restart your system.
Command to add your lp group to system.
Ex: usermod -a -G lp yourname (yourname is the output of the "whoami" command)
3. Select the printer queue has hpcups ppd
4. sudo chown "myname" /dev/bus/usb (you need to give space between "myname" and "/deb/bus/usb"
4. add permissions to USB Devices
su -c "chmod 777 /deb/bus/usb/*"
You added a comment that you are able to add printer.
if you are able to give test page printout and printouts are coming means, there is some permission issue.
Early reply is appreciated.
Thank you for supporting HPLIP,
Naga Samrat.

Hello
So I added printer by installing old, and apparently wrong packages.
I removed everything (I guess) using the synaptic tool, and history of
added removed packages/drivers
Commit Log for Sun Nov 1 12:13:19 2009
Installed the following packages:
kooka (4:3.5.
libkscan1 (4:3.5.
Commit Log for Sun Nov 1 12:20:45 2009
Installed the following packages:
hpoj (0.91-13)
hpoj-xojpanel (0.91-13)
Commit Log for Sat Nov 14 11:46:12 2009
Removed the following packages:
hplip-data
hpoj
hpoj-xojpanel
I think I removed everything, and then reinstalled drivers as per your
instructions.
Please note that I am using the so called CAElinux, which is basicly
Ubuntu 8.10, but maybe there is something different causing the problems
/though I doubt it/
I am so lame it's unbeleivable, but when I try to follow your guide I
get the following commands:
linux@kkkk-
usermod: unable to lock password file
linux@kkkk-
[sudo] password for caelinux:
linux@kkkk-
linux@kkkk-
Password:
su: Authentication failure
linux@kkkk-

Sorry for relatively late reply, but I am really busy nowadays.
Looking forward to further advising.

Hey,
I didn't return the printer, I sold the entire computer, because I am
moving out of Korea (Yey, finally!!! ^^)
Either way... the only problem that there was, was me, because I cannot
operate Ubuntu operating system well enough. ^^
There is however one thing I would like you to take into consideration.
I didn't have a clue that special linux drivers for HP printers exist
and support is provided. That's why I tried to do it myself, installed
something I found on the internet and couldn't 100% remove it afterwards.
It would be nice if it was absolutely (more) clear to all the buyers of
HP printers, that Linux operating systems are supported by HP.
Either way , thanks again for trying to help.
