When I upgraded to HPLIP 3.9.8 I printed a test page from hp-systray and received the following messages:

What was the media type (paper) used for printing? Can you please enable the cups logging and attach the error_log file. Please use the below link to enable the logging:

I tried to reproduce the same using debian 5.3 and officejet pro 8000. Printed the test page using "hp-testpage" but i do not see any margins issue with hplip 3.9.8.

Can you please post the information of the test page. On the paper itself you would find a block of Imageable area after giving a test print-out. Share the page-size , lower-left , upper-right and resolution details.Please post the same for me to cross-confirm.

The actual HPLIP Printer Test Page looks fine (only metric shown here for brevity):

Page Size 209.9x297.0mm

Lower-Left: 0.0x0.0mm

so the actual printing seems to be fine.

Can you please attach the document which you are printing (one where the bottom page is cutting off.).

Also, please attach the ppd file of this printer model. From the log, the ppd file path is as below:

Hi, even the HPLIP test page seems to be cutting off 20mm from the bottom. If there is a way to save and send a copy of the test page being sent to the printer, let me know how to do so and I'll attach a copy.

I'm not sure how the bottom margin is defined/set in HPLIP.

Same can be done but the size of the output file will be in GB.

Please take backup of your old PPD and than try using the one attached along with this mail. You would need to restart cups after replacing the ppd file.Let me know if this works for you as for time-being. Meanwhile , i'll need to do more analysis with your attached PPD file.

Make sure to take a backup of your original PPD . Incase this does not work you can revert it back.

OK, the old PPD file caused hp-systray's test page to print the rule down the left side of the paper less than half a millimetre from the left edge and right rule ending about 6 mm from the right edge, top ruler about 4 or 5 millimetres from the top, and the bottoms of the rules to finish about 23 millimetres on the ruler scale but actually about 20mm from the bottom of the page.

The new PPD file just sent to me gave a test page with similar top margin, 2mm left margin, 3 mm right margin and the lowest mark appearing was the half inch mark on the left ruler (ie about 13mm), but the actual length of the first mark on the page was about 10mm from the bottom of the page. The new PPD file's test page also gave a slightly broken green line on the right edge of the right ruler.

So the new PPD appears to have a smaller bottom margin by about 10mm.

Can you also try out with the HPIJS ppd and check if the problem occurs with it.

I tried the driver: HP Officejet Pro 8000 a809 hpijs, 3.9.8.36 (color, 2-sided printing) and it printed a PDF without the broken line on the right side of the page that the HP CUPS 3.9.8 driver added.

The driver: HP Officejet Pro 8000 a809 hpijs, 3.9.8.36 (color, 2-sided printing) also printed to within 5 mm of all sides of the page, so I will use this driver for now.

I upgraded to hplip 3.9.10 and the test page printed fine, whereas the the bottom 1 mm of text on the bottom of the test page under hplip 3.9.8 was missing.
