Yes, the "SR:" number in the generated deviceID is valid.
For HP products the USB "iSerialNumber" and "iManufacturer" descriptors are the same as the deviceID "SR:" and "MFG:" fields. There should be no reason to read deviceID at udev event time because all the device discovery info is in the USB enumeration.
