Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile
HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to
successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]

Same here, on latest hplip: 3.19.3
Linux Mint 19.1 (kernel 4.18.0-15-generic)
printer: hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_MFP_M28-M31

It doesn't scan either via wi-fi or usb.
Printing OK though.

Hi All,

This issue is seen as if we did not enable “ Enable Remote User Auto Capture “ option in the EWS page of the device.
Once we enabled this option, we were able to do the scan.

To enable the option :
1) Connect the device and PC in same network
2) Open a Web browser, and in the address field, type the device IP address exactly as it displays on the Configuration Page, and then press Enter.
NOTE: If the Web browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing this website will not harm the computer.
3) On the top navigation tabs, select the Security tab.
4) In the Web Scan Auto Capture Jobs, select the Enable Remote User Auto Capture check box.

After that restart the device (i.e., printer/scanner)

Thanks,
Umesh

You can enable this option by this way :
(I'm not sure what the menu names are in "English")

1) Go into the web configuration page
2) On the top menu, go on "Parameters" (Paramètres)
3) In the left menu, expand the "Security" tree (Sécurité)
and select "Admin parameters" (Paramètres de l'administrateur)
4) In the list, find "Scanning" (Numérisation)
check "Scanning with a computer or mobile device" (Numériser avec un ordinateur ou un périphérique mobile)
and uncheck "Web scanning from EWS" (Numérisation Web depuis EWS) if you don't need it

You made my day (#9). I had been struggling with scanning from MFP M479fdw for over an hour, reinstalling things over and over. And after all, it turned out to be a security settning. Thank you.

Benitron (benlarcher-1) wrote (last edit ):

Hi,
I had the same problem. I installed hplip, the printer works fine but not the scanner.
I did connect the printer to the EWS page of the device (as said by nico207), but I did not have the same interface apparently.
I went to the tab "System", then the sub-menu "Service" I did "Restore defaults" and it worked for me.
I think it was that, but for sure, it was by going to the EWS page of the device.
So the problem seems to come from HP parameters themselves ? I wanted to send them a message on their forum, but the subscription failed...
EDIT : It doesn't work again and I can't make it back...
