I have the same problem: the printer is installed but no job leaves the print queue.

I upgraded a Ubuntu installation to 18.04.1 LTS, and hplip to 3.18.7. A HP LaserJet M1132 Multifunction Printer is detected and configured properly. hp-check shows no errors nor warnings. A test page sent via Cups stays in the print job list with state "Filter failed". In /var/log/cups/error_log I see basically the same as mishgun:

Arch Linux users reported that a series of patches solves the problem: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hplip-reverted-imageprocessor/

Hi,
Can you mention which distro you are facing this issue? We were not able to see this issue in Ubuntu 18.04 with hplip driver version of 3.18.7.

Thanks,

FWIW, at least another user seemed to be having the same (or a similar) problem with hplip 3.18.7 that went away using v. 3.18.6: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1070450/hplip-hp-device-manager-print-job-has-completed-but-nothing-happens-hp-la/1072536#1072536

hplip 3.18.9 did not work for me, with error:
prnt/hpcups/HPCupsFilter.cpp 647: DEBUG: imageProcessorStartPage failed result = 2

Reverting to 3.18.6 did the trick. Many thanks.

By the way, this seems the same bug that https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1787289, and
it included a patch, but was ignored because it was only reported by Arch linux users.

I just solved a problem very similar to this in Debian. To solve it, I added "oldstable" to my Debian sources.list and then I was able to downgrade several packages. I downgraded:

printer-driver-hpcups to 3.16.11+repack0-3

ghostscript, ghostsctipt-x, libgs9, libgs9-common to 9.26a~dfsg-0+deb9u2
