Well, we already know what went wrong. Here is the package content in
Debian Sid/unstable.

        $ dpkg -L libcupsimage2
        /.
        /usr
        /usr/lib
        /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
        /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcupsimage.so.2
        /usr/share
        /usr/share/doc
        /usr/share/doc/libcupsimage2
        /usr/share/doc/libcupsimage2/changelog.gz
        /usr/share/doc/libcupsimage2/changelog.Debian.gz
        /usr/share/doc/libcupsimage2/copyright

For run time checks on distribution probably the package management
system should be consulted.
