Btw, if "dnsmasq" (not "dnsmasq-base") package has been installed and then removed, it still has to be purged with apt-get or aptitude. Otherwise, it will be restarted via /etc/rc2.d/ links again in boot. After purging, I don't get any weird issues with dnsmasq anymore and login/logout procedure is not required, though I had to "killall dnsmasq" since init.d script was gone . So I think this could be also automatized in the preinst/postinst scripts. You can leave the automation to me if you're getting bored with this :)
