Please see a small patch containing a simple method to parse (~/.config/user-dirs.dirs) and extract XDG_DESKTOP_DIR. It fixes saving icon to now "locale aware" Desktop. Also fixed filling the server field, connect delete-event to close main dialog and re-factored a line or two.

Cornelis, (if you seen the code you've probably work this out by now):
although filling the server field should be fixed now, you may want to add credentials to gnome keyring for this to be fully working.
