I had a conversation with Philipp Kern recently and he basically shares our opinion. To get it in the default release we should:
- collect all known/possible regressions (like c&p of binary data, some magic gimp seems to do, ...)
- find someone from the official canonical team to support this
probably a blueprint summing up the reason why this change is needed together with these two points is the way to go.
