This is not the problem, because the issue happens through playback when not in fullscreen mode.
An example:
I have a video file with a resolution of 654x324. VLC and other players open the video in exactly this resolution (1:1). GMP does not, it open the video in e.g. 568x490 with top and bottom black borders. Sometimes very rarely GMP opens a video even with e.g. 420x560 and left and right black borders. The video resolution seems to be completely randomly in GMP.
I think it would be much better if GMP starts every video in his native (1:1) resolution at default.
