The mixer applet is actually in gnome-applets, so I changed the upstream task.
You might want to take a look at

Hmm, this is odd, like the volume applets window-type has been changed to 'normal'. When it's open, does the window show in the Alt+Tab switcher? |
Marking as invalid in netbook-remix as it is/was a gnome-panel error. Trying with latest intrepid fully updated, the volume-control window behaves itself and doesn't maximise anymore :-) |
