Sam_, David Marzal: Please open a separate bug - this is a separate issue!
Concerning this here bug: I also see this as regression, and more important than wishlist - it causes disruption of established workflow! Breaking third party functionality is not very nice.
I disabled my globalmenu extension for now, this is the most immediate workaround.
