saw this with requests 2.7.0 and urllib3 1.11, where requests was using a symlink to point to urllib3 rather than providing its own version of urllib3 (thanks, red hat). So it doesn't seem like this is just a matter of using the latest versions of both. Requests has to be tied to a specific version.
