I've tested the new game package on 14.04LTS 64bit and it works without any problem. I think this game should've been included in Debian and Ubuntu repos long time ago. Anyway, I'm gonna try and contact the devs and ask 'em to submit the package to Debian (and thus make it's way into Ubuntu too). And thank you @c-korn , for responding so quickly to this issue and creating the 'cdogs-sdl' package.
