Same laptop (HP Pavilion dv5000, Centrino Duo), same kernel version 2.6.27.4, installed Arch Linux, bug disappeared. This is probably Ubuntu only bug, maybe some custom patch.
acpi=off as kernel parameter solves the problem too, but this removes support for synaptic touchpad, battery monitor and some keys -- thus not a solution.
