A simple workaround for this - to set a ceph config parameter in ceph.conf - 'rgw op thread suicide timeout' http://ceph.com/docs/master/radosgw/config-ref/

I think 30 seconds is a reasonable value for this. It will fully prevent glance hangups during connection to rados.
