Using the M10 I can very effectively use Xapps without an external monitor.

What happens:

Open a few Xapps in staged mode
Switch to desktop mode for a while
Switch back to staged mode
A dialog is presented with two options - to reconnect (I was never connected) or close all

What should happen

Nothing, go to staged mode.
