Jeremy's fix is works for me, and I agree with DodgeThis about NeatX, apart from being slow, it is not stable or ready for use by the average user, I think the Ubuntu Docs should be amended to not recommend its usage over FreeNX (once the permissions issues get fixed!!!):

This is just leading people towards disaster with NeatX, FreeNX is the way to go for now...
