Indeed, something has changed. I don't know if the bug can be considered as fixed, but it does seem to be mitigated under 24.1.0.
What, I think, is still annoying most of us (and the reason why I personally had not noticed the change) is that if you press "Tab" (which in principle does _not_ trigger autocompletion, i.e. if you just have just entered a prefix), Firefox does revert to the saved case.
