Apologies -- it was mentioned explicitly in the original bug report and I latched on to that as my main concern here.

That would meet my needs. The only reason I did not mention it is that I want the location panel and search panel both to be as wide as possible and adding an X (as on the tab bar) would lose about 6mm. But I could live with that. I would be happy to have the option to lose the Go button as I always just hit the 'Return' key.
