Exact same problem:
ATI Mobility x1600
17" Mac Book Pro (integrated 1440x900 display)
Ubuntu 8.04.1 x64
fglrx 8.7 (the one that came out on july 21st)
BenQ FP202W 1680x1050
Everything works fine... until I click.
I really hope a patch comes out for this, because as mentioned it's s huge show stopper if you want to have a nice looking desktop :-/
