To those of you who were experimenting with different plugins:

I ran a test today, enabling Compiz with _no_ plugins. Navigation was a bit difficult, though entirely doable. The computer froze after several hours running Compiz with _no_ plugins enabled. alt sysrq did not work, and the mouse cursor would not move.

I do not think that the issue lies with Compiz or its plugins. I am fairly certain that the issue is with the new version of x.
