@joshua-willowisp can you see what's going on the access point? I've got my home router syslogging to a server which makes watching authentication failures a bit easier.

Other than that you might want to install wireshark and packet sniff your wireless interface. I feel pretty safe in saying if you're affected by this bug during the 802.1x exchange you should see a "bad certificate" error.

Could you connect to the access point before 12.04? Can other people connect to the AP? There are some possible settings with allowed encryption algorithms to try fiddling with as well.
