The quickest way I found to work around this issues outside of firefox was to use the opendns solution found at:
https:/
This allowed me to use aptitude to download software and updates. This is the easiest solution for joe user and grandmothers to get started with Karmic without editing conf files. Eventually, there may be a better and more permanent solution for all users.
