Of course it fixes the problem, this as the problem lies in the DNS resolver that is inside the DSL/cable/etc modem.
Thus by entering/using OTHER dns servers, preferably the ones from your ISP, otherwise the ones from the OpenDNS or similar providers, you bypass the DNS resolver in the modem, and thus the device that would otherwise drop DNS queries for AAAA records.
