As it seems that you are able to repeat the problem, I first like to see the output of a recent original cdrecord when calling:
cdrecod -v blank=all
If this really causes a problem, I need a report from you run under Solaris.
This may be done by e.g. booting a schilllix CD and running the same command from Solaris.
