System is HP Compaq dc7800p Small Form Factor, Core 2 duo.
BIOS updated from 1.04 to 1.28 - no difference.
This occurs in Jaunty with kernel 2.6.28.x
Have also tried 2.6.30.10 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
