Exactly. Take ANDROID as an example - it's #1 mobile (rapidly growing and
therefore extremely interesting market) platform, so the driver code has to
be at least just as "good" as it is for Winblow$ on the desktop. I've read
some SAMSUCK and BROADCOM sources for my cell phone and believe me when I
say that we're infinitely better off the way we are because the code that
hardware/device vendors keep spewing when left at home alone is
(euphemistically put) THE WORST CRAP EVER; unless they aim for mainline
inclusion where Linus beats them to their senses whenever they try shoving
some half-baked crap down his throat. That's where the whole anti-blob mind
set comes from - just looking under the hood almost makes you wanna throw
up; no wonder it causes all kinds of clusterfucks all the time. Not to
mention that it allows them to force you into buying the same stuff over
and over by simply depriving you of updates whenever they see fit.

A lot of work though.

Yeah, but it's a work that definitely pays off in the long run.
