The <1% figure is from reports paid for by MicroSquish and may possibly have an inadvertent bias.
Machines that are bought with Windows pre-installed and then have any other OS installed could be being counted as Windows machines. This is part of the reason the FSF try to have an annual event where people try to claim a refund for unused Windows licences.
