I've tracked down the cause of why the search filter checkbox is not consistently appearing; the relevant workstation setting is not always present depending on how the version upgrade to 3.6 was done. In fact, DB schema revisions 1235 through 1240 may be missing from DBs that were upgraded to 3.6.0 at some point in their history. I'll investigate further.
