I am not sure if the fix will address this or not, but I did not see it mentioned, so I wanted to share my findings just to be safe.
It appears that selecting your Default Search Pane does work as intended, but ONLY for the traditional catalog. So if you set your Default Search Pane to Numeric Search, for example, in the current staff catalog it will still take you to the default Keyword Search tab, but in the traditional catalog, it will take you directly to the Numeric Search tab.
This seems to work with both the Search Preferences in the staff catalog and the Advanced Search Default Pane in Administration -> Workstation.
