Tested this in Cataloging Interest Group meeting.
Results:
Loaded 500 items to Item Status
1st Test - Chose a few (less than 10) items, changed shelving location, refresh time 55 seconds
2nd Test - Chose a different few (less than 10) items, changed call number, refresh time 59 seconds
3rd Test - Chose 100 items, changed shelving location, refresh time 58 seconds

We're not sure if this is slower because it is on a test server.
