When adding parts to a volume, I think descending would be better. We use parts for both multi-disc dvd/cd sets and periodicals. Although we have a lot more discs than periodicals, the periodicals have far longer parts lists.
However, if we ever have this conversation pertaining to placing holds in the opac, it would be difficult to explain to patrons why 'Season 8, Disc 5' appears at the top of the list when placing a hold.
