So far, all these logs really look like the response is getting dropped on the floor -- either never sent by the Perl code, or never passed on by ejabberd.
Are there any corroborating ejabberd logs that suggest dropped stanzas? I'm not betting on it, though, because ejabberd's logs are pretty thin...
