Liam's fix works for my problem, but I think Dan Wells should have a look, too, before this gets pushed.

I also never saw an error when loading a MARC record before Liam's latest branch, so I'm not sure what circumstances lead to that.

Liam, you might want to sign off on your commit. I noticed it was missing when I went to add a sign off of my own.
