As the person who submitted the original bug report, I want to clarify that there was no assumption that autosuggest would be useful to low- or non-vision users.

The problem is that one of our sites turned on autosuggest as a service to their vision users. They immediately began receiving complaints from non-vision users of JAWS who could no longer do a basic search of the catalog because JAWS is no longer able to recognize the text entry box. The user wasn't trying to use autosuggest, they were just trying to search.
