I have begun working on trying to resolve this bug. So far it has been poking and breaking code to get familiar with it, and working at understanding the problem in better detail (eg hardlinks have implications for storing the encrypted name in the header).
As I work on this I am going to be pushing kernel dev code to the ecryptfs branch of git://kernel.
