after a bit a digging it appears that gnulib-tool doesn't provide an
alternate implementation of log (perhaps it should since freebsd at
least has precision problems.) i'm looking at alternatives. i'm
downloading gnulib-tool to check what code is in it though there's
little chance of it compiling on freebsd. i will probably suggest that
gnulib-tool provide an alternate log, but have no clue if that's
feasible.
