FYI the part about the outlines 'no longer moving' once you get over the dock, I dont think we can help that.

The outlines are drawn by nautilus (on the desktop, which is drawn by nautilus). Once we get over the dock, nautilus doesnt get the mouse motion events anymore... so it cant update those outlines.

I *think* the reason the outlines never go away is because we fail to properly notify nautilus the drag ended. Thats my hunch anyway.
