In any case, I tried to move the image repository to a CIFS-mounted drive. When I then tried to start digikam, it wouldn't start at all. From the command line, it appeared to start, but it just hung until I killed it.
So, does this mean that digikam doesn't work for image repositories that are not located on a local disk? Sounds _very_ limiting to me...
