Bug Description

I noticed OpenOffice.org Writer has no template at all. For most student having a report template would save them a lot of time.

I made such a template, using the Bitstream fonts, which are accesible to all Ubuntu users.

I am offering this template for inclusion into OpenOffice.org.

I am licensing this template using the CreativeCommons Attribution-2.5 license:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/

If this license prohibits the template from getting included into OOo/Ubuntu, other licenses are discussable.

Hi Pascal,

Better OOo templates and styles are something I'd like to work on for Edgy and I'm planning to bring it up on the ubuntu-art list once Dapper is released. See also http://ooextras.sourceforge.net/downloads/english/

Regarding your template, is it necessary to include the usage instructions in the template itself? The template isn't ready to use as-is, you have to edit out the instructions before you start typing...

Well, the instructions aren't critical, and they are very easily deleted.

This is the same template but with the instructions removed.

No offense to the OOoExtras people, but most of those templates look really unprofessional. So I think it's debatable whether they should be included...

I have to agree, which is why I plan to propose a small, usable set of templates (etc) to be developed within the Ubuntu community for Edgy. There could be a style guide and discussion on what's really needed, so we can have some good-looking, functional templates which people may actually want to use.

This bug report probably isn't the place for this discussion, however, so I'll bring it up on an appropriate mailing list at a later date :)

I should probably revise my template, before it gets included (if ever)...

Especially since the font landscape has changed (Liberation fonts, etc).

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

Thanks for your template, Pascal. LibreOffice devs are working on a new template repository. Hopefully LibreOffice will include at least a few usable templates by default in future releases. Currently the templates included in Oneiric are non-existent or very old/unprofessional. If templates can't be included in default installation, there should be an extra package which would contain usable set of templates.

I'd like to see your template updated to use Ubuntu font and included in future releases. Hence I'm marking this as "also affects project Libreoffice".

Forgot to mention but this is where you should add your template: http://templates-test.libreoffice.org/

Hopefully some helpful people will pick the most useful templates and pack them into a proper Debian package so that we can install the best templates straight from Ubuntu's repositories.

Jiri Grönroos, this is:
- a clearcut upstream issue. Your welcome to send this to the developers of the software by following the instructions at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status.
- won't be fixed in LibreOffice Packaging
Resolving as Won't Fix in LibreOffice Packaging. This does not mean the issue will not be cared about, but if it is cared about (even by Ubuntu/Canonical contributors), it is done upstream at LibreOffice.
