It's not trivially reproducible, though:

$ sudo devkit-disks --inhibit -- sleep 3600 &
$ devkit-disks --ata-smart-refresh /dev/sda
Refreshing ATA SMART data failed: Daemon is inhibited

and no crash. Trying harder..
