Same problem, is not a very big deal since I can manage pics and video anyway mounting it with gparted or manually as suggested above

Instead for music I use to tag album art with easytag setting id3 to version 2.3 then easily access mp3 via mtp with rhythmbox and with gnomad2 i can quickly create playlists.
I hope one day there will be a standalone software that could do everything at the same time (maybe amarok, but I hate running KDE apps on gnome)
