Bug Description

Hi,

I've been using Deja Dup for several month already however recently it for some reason started "failing with an unknown error". So this might be related to one of the recent releases. The error seems to be occurring when it is "Preparing..." for the back up. It used to display the list of files that it is going to back up however now no files are displayed and it just fails after several seconds of "preparing".

Thanks!

deja-dup.log:
I ran that command but for some reason the log is empty. However in terminal I get many (around 20) identical instances of the following line
** (deja-dup:7573): CRITICAL **: deja_dup_duplicity_cmp_prefix: assertion `b != NULL' failed

deja-dup.gconf: attached

deja-dup 14.0.3-0ubuntu0karmic1
duplicity 0.6.08-0ubuntu0karmic1
Ubuntu 9.10

Hello,
same problem. It does not work when backing up to an external disk.
On internal HD works fine.

Karmic / 2.6.31-20-generic
deja-dup 14.0.3-0ubuntu0karmic1
duplicity 0.6.08-0ubuntu0karmic1

Cheers.

I have the same problem (maybe since the unknown error is too generic) (or maybe I've the same bug in https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/539393).

I'm using Kubuntu 9.10 (64 bit) and I've installed deja-dup 14.0.3 using the stable PPA (https://launchpad.net/~deja-dup-team/+archive/ppa).

I've done a backup every day since 26th april in a local partition (ext3) and yesterday I've moved all the files in an extern drive (an ext3 partition too). When I've tried to migrate my data to another laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 I've discovered this problem.

The data in both drives are identical since I've checked via md5sum for paranoia. I can reproduce the bug in both machinces (same deja-dup version installed with the same PPA). The backups are crypted.

When I try to restore, after the preparing step it starts to extract my data and after a while I receive this sad generic error. I've also tried to restore in a directory but with no lucky.

The only thing I see is this message in console "** (deja-dup:3678): DEBUG: DuplicityInstance.vala:552: duplicity (3723) exited with value 1".

The problem is not related to FAT (since I use ext3) and I can reproduce using both internal and external drive.

PS: I don't know if this is the right place to write because the error is too much generic, there is another bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/539393) maybe related.

I've done an interesting test, I've tried to install deja-dup from the Ubuntu repositories (version 10.2) and tried to restore in a directory and all went OK (no errors reported). I'm going to restore the backup on the other laptop, let's see if I have luck (wondering which version is available in Ubuntu 10.04 since I've upgraded that laptop this night!).

Maybe we found a regression.

This is a regression and it looks like bug 569418. Marking as a duplicate. A release with the fix will come shortly.

I still can reproduce the originally reported bug so I am not sure whether it is a duplicate. I am reposting the bug description and re-attaching logs and all other info (I've updated deja-dup and OS since then).
