I would be more inclined to understand that if this bug had been reported
AFTER Gutsy was released. But this bug was reported on August 2nd, and as
far as I know Gutsy is also known as 7.10, which indicates that it was
released in October. That gives 2 months to do something (or at lease post a
comment, which is yet to happen) about it BEFORE the release.

Again, when the bug was reported Gutsy WAS the development branch.

Easy for whom? For me? Yes - if I had a different graphics card. I'm yet to
try a solution that works with my Intel 945GM/GMS. I'm living with 80x25,
which is a "working" solution but, as someone said earlier, seem rather
silly this long after the standard came out.

For someone trying out linux as an alternative to Windows for the first time
and runs into some trouble needing to login without X? Not so much!
