I should add that this has seemingly messed up my bootsplash. It is now of a lower resolution, and is offset to the right to the point where half of it is on the right edge of the screen and the rest is wrapped around onto the left. I've experimented with a few different resolutions in /etc/usplash.conf but there's been no change.
