I confirm the problem here on my Acer Aspire 5680 Laptop.
I've installed Ubuntu Gutsy and set up the boot with startup-manager.
My tty consoles on f1-6 are invisible, with the flashing cursor on top-left corner, but working. If I log in, it logs me in (I verified from X just after).
