I don't think I have the problem on login, but I certainly do on shutdown - i.e. everything freezes with 3 bars left on the Ubuntu splash, then my whole screen goes white, and I have to force shutdown my laptop, (by holding down the power key for >5 secs) every single time.

Just migrated up to Intrepid, and the problem's still here.
